Are Rice Krispies low in sugar? Rice Krispies. Or otherwise known as Snap, Crackle & Pop because, you know, that is the sound they make when you add milk to them. Ranking Rice Krispies Sugar Content
In this section, I will go through 10 different types of Rice Krispie styles of cereal to find the lowest sugar options available.
1. Kellogg’s Frosted Krispies – 15g of Total Sugar
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise but one of the highest-sugar Rice Krispies out there is the frosted version. I mean – come on – frosted is basically code for “sugar-coated”. There are 15g of total sugar in a serving of Kellogg’s Frosted Krispies. It is pretty rare to find a frosted cereal that contains less than 10g of sugar per serving – as I can attest to in the following post I wrote – Do Frosted Flakes Have A Lot of Sugar? 14 Brands Ranked.
2. Kellogg’s Cinnamon Sugar Krispies – 15g of Total Sugar
Again, it shouldn’t come as another huge surprise that the Kellogg’s Rice Krispies variety that contains “sugar” in the name is the other highest sugar Rice Krispies variety. There are 15g of total sugar in a serving of Kellogg’s Cinnamon Sugar Krispies.
3. Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies – 13g of Total Sugar
Kellogg’s chocolate version of Rice Krispies is another higher sugar variety, clocking in at 13g of total sugar per serving.
4. Kellogg’s Rainbow Krispies – 12g of Total Sugar
The other highest sugar Kellogg’s Rice Krispy variety is their Rainbow Krispies. Kellogg’s Rainbow Krispies contain 12g of sugar per serving.
If you avoid frosted, rainbow, cinnamon sugar, or chocolate Rice Krispies, your bowl of Rice Krispies should be fairly low in sugar. Basically, just stick the original Rice Krispies.
5. Kellogg’s Rice Krispies with Red & Blue Krispies – 4g of Total Sugar
The one “exciting” variety of Rice Krispies I came across that is lower in sugar is “Rice Krispies with Red & Blue Krispies”. This variety contains 4g of total sugar per serving, which is the same sugar content as their original Rice Krispies.
I mean I guess if the main difference is just some red and blue food dye it makes sense that the sugar content has remained the same.
6. Kellogg’s Rice Krispies – 4g of Total Sugar
The OG of Rice Krispies aka Kellogg’s Rice Krispies is actually fairly low in sugar, by cereal standards. There are 4g of total sugar per serving of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies. To put this in context this is a tad higher than the sugar content of original Cheerios (Are Cheerios High In Sugar And Are There Any Sugar-Free Cheerio Alternatives?) but much lower than the sugar content of Frosted Flakes (Do Frosted Flakes Have A Lot of Sugar? 14 Brands Ranked) and Cinnamon Toast Crunch (What Are The Lowest Sugar Cinnamon Toast Crunch Options?).
There is added sugar in Kellogg’s Rice Krispies, so if you are looking for a totally sugar-free rice crispies option (it exists!) keep reading.
7. Market Pantry Rice Breakfast Cereal – 4g of Total Sugar
Target’s own brand (Market Pantry) of rice breakfast cereal contains added sugar and has the same total sugar content per serving as Kellogg’s Rice Krispies, coming in at 4g of total sugar.
8. 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Brown Rice Crisps Cereal – 2g of Sugar
*Half the Sugar Content as Rice Krispies*
If you are looking for a rice crispy option that still contains some added sugar for sweetness but that contains less than 4g of sugar per serving, then you should check out 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Brown Rice Crisps Cereal. 365’s Rice Crisps Cereal is sweetened with sugar but contains half the sugar content as Rice Krispies.
365’s Organic Brown Rice Crisps Cereal contains 2g of sugar per serving.
