In order to answer this question, I have selected 5 Cool Whips and equivalents as well as 5 whipped creams (including some dairy-free and zero-sugar versions). I then collated and compared the total sugar contents of a 2-tablespoon serving to find out which had the least sugar.

How Much Sugar is in Cool Whip vs. Whipped Cream?

As a general rule, Cool Whip contains more sugar than whipped cream. There tends to be 2g of total sugar in a 2-tablespoon serving of Cool Whip (or an equivalent brand). In comparison there tends to be <1g-1g of total sugar in a 2-tablespoon serving of whipped cream. There are sugar-free Cool Whip available and whipped creams available that contain 0g of total sugar per serving.

How Much Sugar is in Cool Whip and Equivalents?

In this section, I will compare the sugar content of 5 different Cool Whips and equivalents to find the lowest sugar options available.

1. Cool Whip – 2g of Total Sugar

Okay, let’s start off with the Queen of the Show – Cool Whip of course! So exactly how much sugar is in the original Cool Whip – the answer is 2g of total sugar per 2 tablespoon serving.

If you are wondering what exactly Cool Whip is, then now would be a good time for me to tell you (because I was wondering that same thing too). Cool Whip is an initiation whipped cream. Kraft Heinz makes the named brand “Cool Whip” which they call a whipped topping.

Cool Whip is made of: Water, hydrogenated vegetable oil (including coconut and palm oils), high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, skimmed milk, light cream, less than 2% sodium caseinate (a milk derivative), natural and artificial flavor, xanthan and guar gums, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, and beta carotene.

Traditionally Cool Whip is brought frozen and then defrosted in the refrigerator. This gives it a longer shelf life than traditional whipped cream.

The sweeteners used in Cool Whip are corn syrup and high fructose syrup. But how does this compare to other Cool Whip alternatives?

2. So Delicious Dairy Free Light CocoWhip – 2g of Total Sugar

Next up is a dairy-free “light” Cool Whip alternative – So Delicious Cocowhip to be precise. How does So Delicious vegan light CocowWhip compare to Cool Whip?

Well first, different sweeteners are used – CocoWhip is sweetened with tapioca syrup and organic cane sugar. But the total sugar content per 2 tablespoon serving is actually the same, coming in at 2g of sugar per serving.

3.365 by Whole Foods Market Plant Based Whipped Topping – 2g of Total Sugar

It is the same sugar situation with 365 By Whole Foods Market’s dairy-free whipped topping. This whipped topping is sweetened with Tapioca syrup and cane sugar and has a total sugar content of 2g of sugar per 2-table spoon serving.

4. Cool Whip Zero Sugar – 0g of Total Sugar

*Sweetened with corn syrup, acesulfame potassium and aspartame*

If you love Cool Whip but are watching your sugar intake, then I have some good news for you – Cool Whip makes a zero-sugar version. That’s right – 0g of total sugar per 2 tablespoons serving.

The sweeteners used in Cool Whip’s zero sugar are corn syrup, acesulfame potassium, and aspartame.

5. Truwhip Keto – 0g of Sugar

*Sweetened with allulose, monk fruit, and tapioca syrup

If you are looking for a sugar-free Cool Whip equivalent but can’t get your hands on Cool Whip Zero Sugar then keep your eyes peeled for Truwhip Keto next time you are at the grocery store. The sweeteners used in this keto cool whip alternative are allulose, monk fruit, and tapioca syrup.

This whipped topping contains 0g of total sugar per serving!

How Much Sugar is in Whipped Cream?

I established above that regular Cool Whip and equivalents tend to contain 2g of total sugar per 2-Tablespoon serving. So how does this compare to whipped cream?

1. Natural By Nature Classic Whipped Cream – 1g of Total Sugar

Let’s start by taking a look at Natural By Nature’s classic whipped cream. This whipped cream is sweetened with organic cane sugar and contains 1g of total sugar per 2 tablespoons serving.

2. 365 by Whole Foods Market Whipped Cream – <1g of Total Sugar

Let’s look at another whipped cream brand’s sugar content – this time 365 By Whole Foods Market. Now this whipped cream is also sweetened with organic cane sugar and contains a touch less sugar per serving at <1g of sugar.

It looks like that in general whipped cream is lower in sugar than Cool Whip.

3. Reddi-Whip – <1g of Total Sugar

One of the big whipped cream brands out there is Reddi-Whip. So how does Reddi-Whip stack up in the sugar department?

Well, just like 365’s dairy whipped cream, there is <1g of total sugar per 2 tablespoons serving of Reddi-Whip.

4. 365 By Whole Foods Market, Oat-Based Whipped Topping – <1g of Total Sugar

Above I looked at the sugar content of dairy-free Cool Whip equivalents so how about dairy-free whipped creams? 365’s oat-based whipped cream has the same total sugar content at <1g per serving.

This stuff is pretty good and honestly, it is my go-to when I want some whipped cream. However, just be warned I never seem to get that much out of the can. It just goes so quickly.

5. Reddi-Whip Zero Sugar – 0g of Total Sugar

I think it’s safe to conclude that most whipped creams (dairy and non-dairy) contain <1g-1g of total sugar per 2-tablespoon aka less sugar than Cool Whip. But before I end this article let’s have a quick look at any sugar-free whipped cream (in case that <1g of sugar per serving is a deal breaker for you).

Well, a great sugar-free whipped cream option is Reddi-Whip Zero Sugar which is sweetened with sucralose and contains 0g of total sauce per serving.

Well, when it comes to Whipped Cream vs. Cool Whip if you are looking for the lowest sugar option then your best option is a whipped cream. Whipped creams tend to be lower in sugar than Cool Whip and its alternatives, in general. The exception to this is Cool Whip Zero Sugar which is the main sugar-free “Cool Whip” version. This is also available from all grocery stores in my experience. That means if you are looking for a whipped topping with a longer shelf-life and zero sugar Cool Whip Zero Sugar could work for you.
