Which peanut butters have the least sugar? Who doesn’t love peanut butter? Apparently, as a nation, we eat 700 million pounds of it every year (according to an NPR article and that was in 2009). Personally, I love the stuff.  I love it on toast, with jam, with bananas on top, I even love it mixed into chocolate ice cream. However, what if you are on a low sugar diet? How sugar friendly is peanut butter and what are some of the best lower sugar peanut butter brands available? In this post, I will rank 10 different brands of peanut butter and find out which ones have the least sugar.

In order to answer this question, I selected 10 peanut butters at random and looked at whether there is added sugar as well as what the total sugar content per serving is. So, let’s dig in. How much sugar does peanut butter contain and what peanut butter contains the least sugar?

In this section, I will go through each of the 10 entries listed in the above table item by item.

1. Santa Cruz Organic Light Roasted Creamy Peanut Butter – 1g of Total Sugar

First up is the lowest sugar peanut butter I came across in my search – Santa Cruz organic light roasted creamy peanut butter. Santa Cruz organic peanut butter does not contain any added sugar and contains a mere 1g of total sugar content per 2-tablespoon serving. This is pretty impressively low!

2. Justin’s Classic Peanut Butter – 2g of Total Sugar

Another great no added sugar peanut butter is from a big name in the nut butter world – Justin’s classic peanut butter. There is no added sugar in Justin’s classic peanut butter and just 2g of total sugar content per 2 tablespoon serving. You can find this Justin’s classic peanut butter on Amazon here.

3. 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Unsweetened Peanut Butter – 2g of Total Sugar

365 makes some awesome products – many of which I have already talked about here at Low Sugar Snax! One of these awesome products is their organic unsweetened and no salt-added peanut butter. The added sugar content is of course 0g and the total sugar content per serving is 2g of sugar.

4. Kirkland Organic Creamy Peanut Butter – 2g of Total Sugar

If you are a Costco shopper, then good news – Costco’s Kirkland brand organic creamy peanut butter is added sugar free and contains 2g of total sugar per 2 tablespoon serving. You can also buy it in bulk.

5. Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter – 2g of Total Sugar

Another added sugar free peanut butter comes from Teddie. Like so many other peanut butters so far on this list, Teddie All Natural Peanut butter is added sugar free and contains 2g of total sugar per 2 tablespoon serving. Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter can be found on Amazon here. This peanut butter is also “super chunky” for all of you on the team crunchy out there! There is also a cute teddy on the label. Sold.

6. Crazy Richard’s Crunchy Peanut Butter – 2g of Total Sugar

The final added sugar free peanut butter I came across is Crazy Richard’s crunchy peanut butter. This peanut butter is made from 100% peanuts. Love. This peanut butter contains just 2g of total sugar per serving.

7. Amazon Brand Happy Belly Creamy Peanut Butter – 3g of Total Sugar

Next up is the first added sugar peanut butter on this list. Amazon’s brand of peanut butter – Happy Belly is sweetened with sugar. There are 3g of total sugar per serving – 2g of which are added sugar.

8. Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter – 3g of Total Sugar

Next up we have a very well-recognized peanut butter brand – Skippy! Skippy’s creamy peanut butter is sweetened with sugar and contains 3g of total sugar, 2g of which is added. So basically, the same situation sugar-wise as Amazon’s Happy Belly brand of peanut butter.

On a side note, Skippy’s “natural creamy” peanut butter also contains 3g of sugar per serving.

9. Jif Creamy Peanut Butter – 3g of Total Sugar

Another big peanut butter brand is Jif. Jif peanut butter is sweetened with sugar and molasses and contains 3g of sugar per serving.

10. Justin’s Honey Peanut Butter – 4g of Total Sugar

It’s not a huge surprise that Justin’s honey peanut butter is a little higher in sugar – I mean the clue was in the name. Justin’s honey peanut butter is sweetened with honey and organic cane sugar. There are 4g of total sugar per serving – 3g of which are added.

And fun fact, did you know that peanuts are not actually nuts (I know mind-blowing) they are legumes! You will never think of peanut butter the same again.
