How much sugar is in Cream Soda, and which are sugar-free? Cream Soda. It’s that sweet soda that gives your soda all those vanilla vibes. In fact, at any one time, you can usually find a “limited edition” cream soda of popular soda drinks (at the time of writing this was Dr. Pepper’s Strawberry Cream Soda). But exactly how much sugar is in the nostalgic drink? And do any sugar-free cream sodas exist?
To answer these questions, I have looked at the sugar content of 12oz cans of 6 popular cream soda brands. I have also managed to find 4 sugar-free cream sodas. Yes, that’s right – sugar-free! So, make sure to read right to the end to find out what these sugar-free cream sodas are.
How Much Sugar is in Cream Soda?
As a general rule there are 33g-46g of sugar in a 12oz can of cream soda. Dads, A&W, Virgil’s, and Zevia all make sugar-free cream sodas that contain 0g of sugar per serving. These sugar-free cream sodas are sweetened with aspartame, monk fruit, stevia, sucralose, and/or erythritol.
Ranking Cream Sodas Based on Sugar Content
In this section, I will rank different brands of Cream Sodas based on sugar content in descending order.
1. A&W Cream Soda – 46g of Sugar
First up is probably one of the most well-recognized cream soda brands – A&W. So exactly how much sugar is in a 12oz can of this popular cream soda? Well, the answer is the same as in a can of A&W root beer (How Much Sugar is in Root Beer – Hint More than Coke). The answer – is 46 g of sugar per can.
This does put A&W cream soda at the top of this list in terms of sugar content.
2. Crush Cream Soda – 44g of Sugar
Next up is Crush. Now I have talked about Crush Orange soda in the post I wrote looking at the sugar content of sodas, which you can read here – Which Soda Contains the Most Sugar? But let’s get back to cream soda – how much sugar is in a 12oz can of Crush Cream Soda?
Well, the answer is 44g of sugar per can.
3. Dr. Browns Cream Soda – 44g of Sugar
Dr. Browns Cream Soda has exactly the same sugar content as Crush Cream Soda – 44g of sugar in a 12oz can of Cream Soda.
4. IBC Cream Soda – 44g of Sugar
44g of sugar is a pretty popular sugar content for a can of cream soda apparently…as there are also 44g of sugar in a 12oz serving of IBC cream soda.

5. Stubborn Agave Vanilla Cream Soda – 38g of Sugar
There is slightly less sugar in a can of Stubborn soda, coming in at 38g.
6. Teddy’s Cream Soda – 33g of Sugar
The final “non-diet” cream soda I looked at is Teddy’s. Teddy’s cream soda has a much lower sugar content than most regular cream sodas, coming in at 33g of sugar per can.
Okay, so 33g of sugar is still a lot of sugar but it is up to 13g less than other crema soda brands mentioned above. So, if for whatever reason, diet cream sodas aren’t for you Teddy’s is the lowest sugar “full sugar” cream soda out there if that makes sense.

For the remaining entries, I will go through the sugar-free brands of Cream Sodas available.
7. A&W Diet Cream Soda – 0g of Sugar
I established above that A&W cream soda contains 46g of sugar per 12oz can, which is at the higher end of the sugar spectrum. Well, A&W fans good news – A&W also makes sugar-free cream soda.
A&W diet cream soda is sweetened with aspartame and contains 0g of sugar per serving. Just by choosing “diet” on your A&W Cream Soda, you will be saving yourself 46g of sugar. Win!

Another sugar-free cream soda comes from Zevia. Zevia is sweetened with stevia and unlike A&W cream sodas doesn’t contain caffeine. So, if you are looking for a sugar and caffeine-free cream soda Zevia is a great option for you.

9. Virgil’s Zero Sugar Vanilla Cream – 0g of Sugar
Another awesome sugar-free cream soda comes from Virgil’s. Virgil’s zero-sugar cream soda (or vanilla cream as they call it) is sweetened with erythritol, stevia, and monk fruit.

10. Dad’s Old Fashioned Cream Soda Singles To-Go Sugar-free Powder – 0g of Sugar
The final sugar-free cream soda option on this list is an unusual one. It is a sugar-free cream soda single from Dad’s.
Basically, you mix a powdered single packet with water and viola – sugar-free cream soda.
This cream soda is perfect for when you want a sugar-free cream soda on the go or when traveling. This powdered cream soda mix is sugar-free and instead sweetened with aspartame and sucralose.
