How much sugar is in sprinkles and are any sugar free? Sprinkles. They are those bright tiny things we sprinkle on ice cream or on cupcakes when we want to be transported back to being a child. Seriously though does any child not love sprinkles? But exactly how much sugar is in sprinkles and do any sugar free sprinkles exist? This is the question I am going to be answering in this post.

In order to answer this question, I randomly selected 7 sprinkles brands and observed the sugar content of a tablespoon (12g serving). To make the comparison fair I have pro-rated the sugar content to a 12g serving if the brand’s definition of a serving is different. I have also selected both rainbow and chocolate sprinkles (also known as “Jimmy’s”). I also managed to find 7 sugar free sprinkle brands so make sure to read right through to the end to find out all about sugar free sprinkles!

So, let’s dig in, how much sugar is in sprinkles, and do any sugar free sprinkles exist?

How Much Sugar is in Sprinkles?

As a general rule, there are 5g-8g of sugar in a tablespoon (12g) serving of sprinkles. There are sugar free sprinkles available, and they tend to be sweetened with erythritol and/or stevia.

1. Judee’s Chocolate Sprinkles 2 lbs.- 8g of Sugar

The joint highest sugar sprinkles I came across in my study were from Judee’s. There are 8g of sugar in a 12g tablespoon serving.

2. Chef’s Quality Chocolate Sprinkles – 8g of Sugar

Chef’s Quality chocolate sprinkles also contain 8g of sugar per 12g tablespoon serving.

3. Medley Hills Farm Rainbow – 7g of Sugar

Medley Hills rainbow sprinkles are slightly lower in sugar at 7g of sugar per tablespoon serving.

4. Supernatural Rainbow Softies Natural Sprinkles – 6.6g of Sugar

Supernatural Rainbow Softies sprinkles do not contain any artificial dyes and are gluten-free and vegan. There are 6.6g of sugar in a 12g tablespoons serving.

Remember that just because a sprinkles brand is natural and artificial dye free doesn’t mean they are sugar-free.

5. 365 by Whole Foods Market Sprinkles Rainbow – 6g of Sugar

Whole Foods Market’s 365 rainbow sprinkles have a similar sugar content at 6g of sugar per 12g tablespoon serving.

6. Bakers Choice Chocolate Sprinkles – 5.6g of Sugar

Baked Choice chocolate sprinkles contain 5.6g of sugar per serving. I did question if chocolate sprinkles are always higher in sugar than rainbow sprinkles, especially since two of the chocolate sprinkle entries contain 8g of sugar per serving. However, the fact that Bakers Choice chocolate sprinkles contain 5.6g of sugar per serving shows that chocolate sprinkles are not necessarily higher in sugar when compared to rainbow sprinkles.

7. Hoosier Hill Farm Rainbow Sprinkles – 5g of Sugar

Finally, Hoosier Hill Farm rainbow sprinkles contain 5g of sugar per tablespoon serving.

As a general rule, it seems safe to conclude that sprinkles contain 5g-8g of sugar per tablespoon serving.

So now let’s move on to the exciting part – sugar free sprinkles. Yes, you read that correctly – sugar free sprinkles do exist. Both sugar free rainbow and chocolate sprinkles exist.

So, let’s dig in – which sprinkles are sugar free?

8. Good Dees Sugar Free Rainbow Sprinkles – 0g of Sugar

First up are these sugar free rainbow sprinkles from Good Dees. These sprinkles are keto, dye-free, and gluten-free. What’s not to love?

Good Dees sprinkles are sweetened with stevia and erythritol and contain 0g of total sugar per serving. You can find Good Dees sugar free rainbow sprinkles on Amazon here.

9. Good Dees Sugar Free Chocolate Sprinkles – 0g of Sugar

Good Dees also have a chocolate version of their sugar free sprinkles, which can be found on Amazon here.

Just like their rainbow sprinkles they are sweetened with stevia and erythritol.

Finally, these rainbow sprinkles from Nativo are sweetened with just erythritol (and not stevia). This means if you are looking for erythritol-sweetened sprinkles these may be the ones for you.

How much sugar is in Sprinkles and are any sugar-free? What have we learned from the above? Well, I for one, was really surprised that you could find sugar-free sprinkles. I just thought those colorful things were always packed full of pure sugar and colorings. However, there are a whole bunch of sugar-free sprinkles available to buy from grocery stores. Most of these are sweetened with stevia and erythritol. If I had to pick one, I would go with People’s Keto Chocolate sprinkles. They are plant-based, non-GMO, dye-free and sugar free.
