Is there a lot of sugar in Orange Juice? In this post, I am going to answer the question – is there a lot of sugar in orange juice? I will also go through and compare different brands of orange juice based on sugar content. According to the Florida Department of Citrus, around 90 percent of Americans drink orange juice at least once a week at breakfast. I mean who doesn’t love a cool glass of freshly squeezed orange juice? Unfortunately, if you are watching your sugar intake then orange juice may not be the friendliest drink available. So, how much sugar is there in a serving of orange juice, and what are some lower sugar alternatives available?
How Much Sugar Is There In Orange Juice?
As a general rule, there are 22g-26g of total sugar in a 240ml serving of pure orange juice. None of this sugar is added – it is all naturally occurring from the oranges. On average, there are 9g-11g of total sugar in a 240ml glass of “light” stevia sweetened orange juice.
Ranking Orange Juice Brands – Item by Item
How much sugar is in orange juice? To answer this question, I randomly picked 5 pure oranges as well as 5 “light orange” juices and looked at the total sugar content of a 240ml glass of these orange juices. Is There A Lot Of Sugar In Orange Juice? – The Final Bite
Is there a lot of sugar in orange juice? What have we learned from the above? Well, first, orange juice is a higher-sugar drink. The important difference to remember, however, is that the sugar in the orange juices I listed above is naturally occurring sugar from the oranges themselves and is not added sugar. Secondly, opting for a “light” orange juice will reduce the sugar content by 50% or more. That means if you just don’t want to give up that morning glass of orange juice, but are watching your sugar intake, opt for one of the five “light” orange juice options I list above.
And Remember…
Ingredients and/or manufacturing processes may change. Always double-check ingredient lists and nutritional information before purchasing any food items.
