Which condiments contain the least sugar? In this post, I am going to be sharing with you which condiments contain the least amount of sugar. Now at this point, you may be wondering what exactly counts as a condiment. Well, let me tell you. A condiment is a type of sauce that is added to food (usually after being cooked) which is then designed to enhance and add specific flavors. The most common condiments we are all aware of include Ketchup, Mayonnaise, and Mustard. When it comes to certain food items, you just can’t eat them without a condiment – for example, who wants plain fries? However, condiments cannot always be the most sugar-friendly food item. So, what condiments contain the least amount of sugar?

What Condiments Contain the Least Amount of Sugar?

As a general rule, the following condiments are some of the lowest sugar condiments –

  • mustard;
  • hot sauce;
  • mayonnaise;
  • soy sauce;
  • ranch sauce;
  • Worcestershire sauce;
  • Caesar sauce;
  • salsa;
  • relish; and
  • added sugar free ketchup.

In this section, I will go through each of the condiments I listed above and provide some recommended lower sugar and sugar brands.

1. Mustard

First up on this list is mustard. Mustard is a fail-safe sugar free condiment. Mustard almost never contains added sugar and usually contains 0g of total sugar per serving or “is not a significant source of sugar” at most.

It doesn’t matter which kind of mustard you go for – yellow, Dijon, or spicy brown for example all tend to be added sugar free. I have included some examples of sugar free mustards for you below.

Sugar Free Mustards

Dijon mustard also tends to be added sugar free. Maille Dijon Mustard does not contain any added sugar and is “not a significant source of sugar” per serving. You can find Maille squeezy Dijon mustard on Amazon here.

Brown mustard also tends to be added sugar free. Amazon’s Happy Belly Spicy Brown Mustard is added sugar free and is “not a significant source of sugar” per serving. You can find it on Amazon here.

2. Hot Sauce

As a general rule, most hot sauces contain 0g of sugar per 5 ml serving. Some hot sauces can contain added sugar even if the total sugar content per serving is 0g of sugar. Many hot sauces are, however, added sugar free.

3. Mayonnaise

Most mayonnaises contain 0g of total sugar per serving or are “not a significant source of sugar” – this is even though a lot of mayonnaises contain one form of added sugar. For example, the ever-popular Hellman’s mayonnaise contains added sugar, but their Mayonnaise is “not a significant source of sugar per serving“.

Some great mayonnaises that contain no added sugar and contain 0g of sugar per tablespoon serving are:

4. Soy Sauce

5. Ranch Sauce

6. Worcestershire Sauce

As a general rule, most Worcestershire sauces contain added sugar. However, despite this most Worcestershire sauces only contain 1g of total sugar per serving.

7. Caesar Dressing

Caesar dressing is another creamy lower sugar dressing option. As a general rule, most Caesar dressings contain a small amount of added sugar – although there are some brands that do not contain any added sugar. Most Caesar dressings have a total sugar content of 0g-1g of total sugar per 2-tablespoon serving.

8. Salsa

Most tomato-based salsas contain <1g-2g of total sugar per serving, making tomato salsas a great lower sugar condiment option. Pickle salsa will usually contain 0g of total sugar making pickle salsa an even lower sugar salsa option. Most, but not all, salsas are added sugar free.

9. Relish

Unsweetened dill relishes tend to contain 0g of sugar per serving. As a general rule, sweet relishes contain 3g-4g of total sugar per 15g tablespoon serving. There are some sweet relishes that are sweetened with sweeteners and so are sweet but contain 0g of sugar per serving.

  • Vlasic, which is sweetened with sucralose and can be found on Amazon here.

10. Added Sugar Free Ketchup

Although regular ketchup can be high in sugar, there are many great added sugar free ketchup out there that contain 0g-2g of total sugar per serving. These sugar free ketchup tend to be sweetened with sucralose, monk fruit, or fruit.
