How much sugar does pumpkin bread mix contain? In this post, I am going to be answering how much sugar goes into pumpkin bread mixes and ranking the sugar content of 10 different pumpkin bread brands. To answer this question, I picked 10 pumpkin bread mixes at random and compared the total sugar content per serving. This post was pretty hard to put together as the issue I found was that almost all pumpkin breads I looked at defined “servings” differently.
A “serving” ranged from 21g of dry mix to 44g of dry mix.
To solve this, I took the average of 34g per serving and apportioned all the sugar contents, so they are applicable to 34g of dry mix. This should provide a fair comparison for each one. This means that the sugar content I mention is for a 34g of dry mix – whatever you add to your pumpkin mix will obviously impact the sugar content, but you have more control over that and can add lower sugar ingredients.
How Sugar Does Pumpkin Bread Have?
As a general rule pumpkin bread mixes contain 0g-20g of total sugar per 34g dry serving. Most pumpkin bread mixes contain around 15g of total sugar per 34g dry serving.

If you are looking for a low sugar pumpkin bread mix you really cannot bear Lakanto sugar free pumpkin spice bread mix. It contains 0g of total sugar per serving. Yes, you read that correctly – 0g.
Instead, this pumpkin bread mix is sweetened with sugar alcohol – monk fruit and erythritol.

2. Simple Mills Pumpkin Muffin & Bread Mix – 11g of Total Sugar
Another lower sugar pumpkin bread mix comes from Simple Mills. Simple Mills pumpkin mix is sweetened with organic coconut sugar and contains 11g of total sugar per 34g of dry mix.
This mix is almond flour-based making it gluten free and paleo.
If you are looking for a lower sugar pumpkin bread mix that doesn’t contain sugar alcohols then I would recommend Simple Mills.

3. King Arthur, Gluten Free Pumpkin Bread + Muffin Mix – 13g of Total Sugar
King Arthur’s gluten-free pumpkin bread mix is sweetened with sugar and molasses and contains 13g of total sugar per 34g dry serving.
King Arthur’s pumpkin bread mix also has the added benefit of being gluten-free.

4. Pillsbury Pumpkin Quick Bread & Muffin Mix – 15g of Total Sugar
Next up and we have one of the most well-recognized names when it comes to baking mixes – Pillsbury. Pillsbury pumpkin bread mix comes in at 15g of total sugar. In fact, 40% of the pumpkin bread mixes I looked at contain 15g of total sugar per 34g dry serving. So, this is good to know – Pillsbury pumpkin bread mix is neither low in sugar nor high in sugar.
5. Extra White Gold Pumpkin Bread Mix – 15g of Total Sugar
Next is another gluten-free pumpkin bread mix which also has the added benefit of being free from the 14 main allergens. Extra White Gold Pumpkin Bread Mix is sweetened with sugar and contains an average of 15g of total sugar per 34g dry serving.
6. Libby’s Pumpkin Bread Kit with Icing – 15g of Total Sugar
Libby’s pumpkin bread kit comes with icing. As icing is included, I was expecting the total sugar content of this mix to be on the higher side – but it comes in at a very average 15g of total sugar per 34g serving.
7. Trader Joes Pumpkin Bread and Muffin – 15g of Total Sugar
Ah, Trader Joe’s. I mean who doesn’t love Trader Joe’s? No seriously who doesn’t love Trader Joe’s?! Trader Joe’s pumpkin bread contains an average of 15g of total sugar per 34g dry serving.
8. Miss Jones Baking Organic Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Mix – 16g of Total Sugar
Next up is a pumpkin bread mix from Miss Jones. I have talked about Miss Jones before in the posts I wrote on the best sugar free brownies mixes and the best sugar free muffin mixes. But back to Miss Jones’ pumpkin bread.
Miss Jones pumpkin bread mix is sweetened with organic cane sugar and contains 16g of total sugar per 34g dry serving.
9. Krusteaz Pumpkin Spice Bread Quick Bread Mix – 19g of Total Sugar
Krusteaz Pumpkin spice bread mix is one of the higher-sugar pumpkin mixes on this list. It contains 19g of total sugar per serving.
10. XO Baking Gourmet Pumpkin Bread Mix – 20g of Total Sugar
The highest sugar pumpkin bread mix I came across in my experiment is XO Baking Gourmet pumpkin bread mix, which contains 20g of total sugar per 34g dry mix serving.
My Personal Recommendation?
If you are looking for the lowest sugar pumpkin bread mix you really cannot beat Lakanto sugar free pumpkin mix (entry no.1), which can be bought on Amazon here.
If you for whatever reason want a pumpkin bread mix that doesn’t contain sugar alcohol then I recommend Simple Mills pumpkin bread mix (entry no.2) which can be found on Amazon here (this mix is sweetened with organic coconut sugar).
How Much Sugar Does Pumpkin Bread Contain?
How much sugar does pumpkin bread contain? Well, when it comes to pumpkin bread mixes you really need to always double-check the sugar content for each brand on offer. This is because (1) sugar content can really vary across different brands. Just sample 10 different brands and the range of sugar varied from 0g to 20g of sugar per serving. (2) Pumpkin Bread mixes were one of the hardest products I have studied to compare sugar content per serving. This is because there was no standard serving for each mix. This just, unfortunately, just makes your job harder when comparing the sugar content of different pumpkin bread brands.
Luckily, if you are looking for the lowest sugar options available then I would recommend Lakanto or Simple Mills pumpkin bread mixes.
