How much sugar is in Taffy are there sugar free taffies? In this post, I am going to be talking about taffy and exactly how much sugar goes into it. Yes, taffy – you know those light chewy candies that are individually wrapped in wax paper and tend to come in an assortment of flavors. How much sugar do taffies contain though? And does sugar free taffy exist? To answer that question, I randomly selected 5 popular taffy brands and examined the sugar content of the taffy on an individual taffy basis. In addition, I also managed to find some sugar free taffies (as in 0g of sugar per taffy – 0g of sugar people), so make sure to read to the end to find out what these are. So, let’s dig in – how much sugar is in taffy, and are there any sugar free taffies?
Full disclosure Taffy is one of my weaknesses when it comes to candy. If I walk past a taffy shop I am one of these people that have to get some especially when it is salt water taffy (particularly banana flavored ones – I don’t know why…I just love them).
How Much Sugar is in Taffy?
As a general rule, there are 3g-4g of sugar in a piece of taffy and 4.75g of sugar in a Laffy Taffy bar. There are sugar free taffy brands that sweeten their taffy with maltitol syrup, stevia, erythritol and/or xylitol, and contain 0g of sugar per taffy.

Ranking Taffy Brands Based on Sugar – item by item
In this section, I will go through each of the above-mentioned brands in further detail. This is to give you all the information you need to know about each brand so you can make the best taffy purchasing decision for you.
1. Laffy Taffy Assorted Flavor Wonka Taffy – 4.75g of Sugar
First on this list is one of the most well-known taffy brands – Laffy Taffy.
Laffy Taffy was the highest sugar Taffy I came across on a per-taffy basis, but it is very much worth bearing in mind that Laffy Taffy pieces are much larger than regular Taffy pieces.
The Wonka flavored Laffy Taffy bars contain 4.75g of sugar per taffy but like I say these taffies are more like mini taffy bars rather than bite-sized taffy so that does explains the higher sugar content. The sweeteners used in Laffy Taffy are sugar and corn syrup.
2. Numa Strawberries and Cream Taffy – 4g of Sugar
Numa’s Taffy is marketed as a “better for you” Taffy. Numa’s taffies are indeed high in protein and have a much more natural ingredient than most taffies – including no artificial colors or flavors.
A more natural sweetener is used as well – rice syrup.
The total sugar content is similar to most taffies at 4g of sugar per taffy. If you are looking for a more natural taffy that uses a natural sweetener, then Numa may be the brand for you.

3. Sweet’s State Fair Salt Water Taffy – 3.3g of Total Sugar
Sweet’s State Fair taffy, just like Laffy Taffy is sweetened with sugar and corn syrup. These taffies contain slightly less total sugar per taffy piece at 3.3g of sugar.
4. Up Top Treats Salt Water Assorted Flavor Taffy – 3.2g of Sugar
The sugar situation is super similar to Up Top Treats taffy which is also sweetened with sugar and corn syrup.
Each Up Tops Treats taffies contains 3.2g of sugar per taffy.
5. Taffy Shop Fall Favorites Salt Water Taffy – 3g of Sugar
Taffy Shop taffy has a similar sugar content at 3g of sugar per piece of taffy.
It seems safe to conclude so far that most pieces of taffy contain 3g-4g of sugar per piece, with small taffy ‘bars’ containing closer to 5g of sugar.

Now let’s move on to the part I assume you are here for – sugar free taffy Yes, these do exist – so let’s dig into the 4 sugar free taffy brands I found.
6. Taffy Town Sugar Free Assorted Taffy – 0g of Sugar
Taffy Town makes a sugar free version that contains (you guessed it) 0g of sugar per taffy piece.
Instead, of using sugar Taffy Shop’s sugar free taffy is sweetened with maltitol syrup.

7. Zollipops Clean Teeth Taffy Assorted Flavors, Natural Fruit Flavor – 0g of Sugar

Well, Zollipops not only make sugar free lollipops but also sugar free taffy which is high in vitamin C.
Zollipop’s taffy is sweetened with maltitol syrup, stevia, erythritol, and xylitol and contains 0g of sugar per taffy.

Another great sugar free taffy I came across is from Russell Stover. Their sugar free taffy is sweetened with maltitol syrup and contains 0g of sugar per taffy.

How much sugar is in taffy? Ah, Taffy – how much I really love you. I am going to be completely honest if I could not have found any sugar free taffy, I would have been disappointed. The great news is that there are a bunch of sugar free taffy options available. That means, if you love Taffy as much as I do you can eat a whole bunch and not have to worry about consuming a bunch of sugar. You will, however, still have to worry about getting all those sticky bits of taffy out of your teeth though.
