Honey Nut Cheerios. They are the little o-shaped cereal that everyone goes crazy for. I mean, that honey nut combo just works. But is this popular cereal high in sugar? I have already written a whole post on the sugar content of all Cheerios cereals (which you can read here – insert Cheerios post) but in this post I want to dig a little deeper specifically into one of Cheerios most popular, if not their most popular, flavor – honey nut. Are Honey Nut Cheerios high in sugar and are there any sugar-free alternatives out there? In order to answer these questions I have collated the total sugar content data per cup serving of Honey Nut Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerio alternatives, and lower sugar and sugar-free options. Cascadian Farm Organic Honey Nut Os may be organic but they are not much lower in sugar than Honey Nut Cheerios. There are 11g of total sugar in a cup serving of Cascadian Farm Organic Honey Nut Os.

It’s the same sugar situation with Mom’s Best Honey Nut Toasty Os – 11g of total sugar in a cup serving. Well, Moms Best defines a serving as more than a cup it I have pro-rated their sugar content information to make it applicable to one cup.

4. Great Value Honey Nut Os – 10g of Total Sugar

There is a touch less sugar in Great Value Honey Nut Os (Walmart’s Own Brand) but to be honest there isn’t a huge amount in it! Again, I prorated the sugar content to one cup serving to make the comparison fair – there are 10g of total sugar in a cup serving of Great Value Honey Nut Os.

5. Signature Select Toasted Oats Honey Nut Cereal – 10g of Total Sugar

There are also 10g of total sugar in a cup serving of Signature Select Toasted Oats Honey Nut Cereal. It basically seems safe to conclude that there tends to be around 10g-12g of total sugar in a cup serving of Honey Nut O Cereals. Now that I have established that, let’s start taking a look at some lower-sugar honey nut o cereal options.

6. Seven Sundays Honey Oat Protein Cereal – 7g of Total Sugar

*Just sweetened with wildflower honey*

The first lower sugar option isn’t a honey nut o option but just a honey o cereal option – for those of you who aren’t that fussed about the nut part. There are 7g of total sugar in Seven Sundays oat-based honey oat protein cereal. What is nice about this cereal is that it is just sweetened with wildflower honey – no sugar or sweeteners in sight! In comparison, all of the above honey nut options are sweetened with both sugar and honey.

7. Kashi Organic Honey Toasted – 7g of Total Sugar

There are also 7g of total sugar in a cup serving of Kashi Organic Honey Toasted cereal. Just like Seven Sundays cereal this cereal is also just honey flavored but the downside is it does contain inverted cane syrup as well as honey.

8. Grain Berry Honey Nut – 6g of Total Sugar

Grain Berry Honey Nut Cereal has both the honey and nut flavor elements but is lower in sugar at 6g per cup serving. This cereal is sweetened with sugar, molasses, and honey.

9. Three Wishes Honey Cereal – 4g of Total Sugar

If you aren’t so fussed about the nut part and are looking for a lower sugar honey o cereal then There Wishes Honey Cereal could be a great option for you! 10. Magic Spoon Honey Nut Cereal – 1g of Total Sugar

*Sweetened with allulose, monk fruit, stevia, and inulin*

If you are looking for the lowest sugar Honey Nut Cheerios alternative then my number 1 recommendation is Magic Spoon Honey Nut Cereal.  I have mentioned the Magic Spoon cereals quite a few times before here at Low Sugar Snax and for good reason – there are 1g of total sugar per serving. Just a word of warning, I did notice that the honey nut flavor was no longer listed on the Magic Spoon website. Whether it means that this flavor is being discontinued – time will tell.

Are Honey Nut Cheerios high in sugar? What have we learned from the above? Well, not unsurprisingly Honey Nut Cheerios isn’t the lowest sugar cereal out there, but it also isn’t the highest. There are 12g of total sugar per serving of Honey Nut Cheerios, which is pretty average for a sweet cereal. The good news is though that low and zero sugar alternatives do exist.
