Cereals. We all love a good bowl of cereal first thing in the morning. But how about if you are watching your sugar intake? I mean, cereals aren’t exactly known as being one of the lowest sugar foods out there. So, what are some of the lowest sugar cereals out there? And by low sugar I mean 0g-4g of total sugar per dry serving! Well, I am very well placed to answer this question as I have researched the sugar content of hundreds of cereal brands and have managed to put together this list summarizing some of the best sugar free and lower sugar cereals out there. Now, I wanted to include both well known cereals that are available in most grocery stores, some kid friendly cereals, as well as intentionally sugar free cereal brands that use sweeteners. I have put this list together in descending order of sugar content so make sure to read right to the end to find out about cereals that contain 0g of sugar per dry serving. So, let’s dig in – what are 17 of the lowest sugar cereals out there?

17 of The Lowest Sugar Cereals – 0 to 4g of Sugar Per Serving!

As a general rule, some lower sugar well known cereals include original Rice Krispies, Special K, Corn Flakes, Cheerios, Rice Chex, Shredded Wheat and Kix. There are also sugar free cereal brands such as Catlina Crunch, Three Wishes, Schoolyard Snacks and Wonderworks cereals that sweeten their cereals with sweeteners rather than sugar.

Also, before we dig in, if you want to find out about sugar free milks to pair with these lower sugar cereals then make sure to check out the following post I wrote here.

Are Rice Krispies Low in Sugar - Rice Krispies

1.     Rice Krispies – 4g of Total Sugar

Ok first up on this list is a low sugar kids cereal. Yes, I repeat, a low sugar kids cereal. If you have read many of the posts I have written on the sugar content of cereals you will have discovered that unsurprisingly that kids’ cereals tend to be fairly high in sugar content (usually at least 12g per dry serving – you can read more about higher sugar cereals here in the post I wrote). But Rice Krispies is a kid’s cereal with cartoon characters on the front (snap, crackle and pop) that is relatively low in sugar content. 4g of total sugar per dry serving to be precise.

Is Special K High in Sugar - Special K Original

2.     Original Special K – 4g of Total Sugar

The next entry on this list probably won’t come as a huge surprise. This entry is original Special K and considering it is very much marketed at women wanting to lose a few pounds, it isn’t a huge surprise that it is relatively low in sugar content at 4g per dry serving. What is, however, quite surprising is that there are up to 18g of sugar in a serving of some of Special K’s flavored cereals. You can find out which ones here in the post I wrote on the topic.

3.     Kellogg’s Corn Flakes – 4g of Total Sugar

Kellogg’s corn flakes is another lower sugar popular well well-recognized cereal brand. There are 4g of total sugar in a 1 ½ cup serving of Kellogg’s corn flakes. In fact, a lot of corn flakes are even lower in sugar – many of them contain 3g of sugar per serving. You can read more about it here.

4.     365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Bran Flakes Cereal – 3g of Total Sugar

Next up on this list are Organic Bran Flakes by 365 by Whole Foods Market. Now these bran flakes do contain sugar at 3g per serving but that is actually pretty low for a bran flake cereal. All Bran Bran Flakes for example contain more than double the sugar content at 7g per serving and All Bran Original contains 9g per serving (you can read more about the sugar content of different bran cereals here). You can check out 365 by Whole Foods Market on Amazon here.

5.     Original Kix – 3g of Total Sugar

Next up is that little corn puff cereal otherwise known as Original Kix. Now original Kix is a pretty low sugar cereal, clocking in just 3g of sugar serving. The flavored varieties (Berry Berry and Honey) are a touch higher in sugar content at 5g. You can read more about it here.

8.     Wonderworks Cereal – 1g of Total Sugar

Above I have gone through some of the lowest sugar well recognized branded cereals out there such as Rice Chex, Rice Krispies, Cheerios and Special K. Some of these cereals are even arguably accidentally low in sugar! But how about cereal brands that are intentionally sugar free? Well, these exist too and I will now present you with some of the best sugar free cereal brands.

10. Magic Spoon Cereal – 0g of Total Sugar

Another sugar free cereal I came across in my searches is Magic Spoon cereal. Now Magic Spoon cereal is an “o” shaped cereal (think Cheerio shaped) and it comes fruity, frosted, cocoa and peanut butter. Now I have come across a few sugar free peanut butter, fruity and cocoa flavored cereals before (see above) but it is pretty rare to come across a sugar free frosted cereal! Magic Spoon cereals are sweetened with inulin, allulose and monk fruit and contain 0g of total sugar per serving. You can try a variety pack of all flavors if you fancy from Amazon here.

11. Plain Shredded Wheat – 0g of Total Sugar

Ok so above I have gone through a few purposively sugar free cereal brands but the next cereal brand I am going to present you with a one of the common big cereal brands out there. That brand is Shredded Wheat. Yup that is right – plain Shredded Wheat is indeed sugar free so if you are looking for a sugar free, easily available cereal next time you are at the grocery store, Shredded Wheat is IT! Just be aware that frosted and flavored Shredded Wheats are not sugar free – you can read more about it here in the post it wrote.

12. Fiber One Original Bran – 0g of Total Sugar

I mentioned in entry 1 that All Bran Original (you know the little sticks of bran) contains 9g of sugar per serving. Well, how about if this is too much sugar for you?
