A cooling drink that still gives you that much-needed caffeine hit. But exactly how much sugar do these cooling coffee drinks contain and do iced coffees even contain sugar? These are the questions that I am going to be answering in this post.
In order to answer this question, I have collated the sugar content data for the iced coffees at four chains – Starbucks, Dunkin’, McDonald’s, and Biggby. So, let’s find out – does iced coffee contain a lot of sugar?
How Much Sugar is in an Iced Coffee?
Some coffee shops add sugar to their iced coffees whilst some coffee shops do not. For example, Starbucks and McDonald’s iced coffees contain sugar whereas Dunkin’ and Biggby Iced coffees do not contain sugar.

Below I have collated the sugar content data for an iced coffee at Starbucks for the different cup sizes. This data is for black iced coffee without milk. Iced coffee with milk has a higher total sugar content due to the naturally occurring sugar in milk.

How Many Pumps of Sugar Are in Starbucks Iced Coffee?
Starbucks adds the following number of pumps of sugar syrup to the different sizes of iced coffees:
- Tall – 3 pumps
- Grande – 4 pumps
- Venti – 6 pumps
- Trenta – 7 pumps
Can You Get Starbucks Iced Coffee with No Sugar?
You can order an iced coffee at Starbucks with fewer classic sugar pumps or with no sugar pumps at all.

Some coffee places add sugar syrup to their iced coffee, whereas others do not. An iced coffee with no milk and no sweetener contains 0g of sugar.
A large iced coffee that contains sugar syrup can contain as much as 42g of sugar.
How Many Spoons of Sugar Are in an Iced Coffee?
An unsweetened iced coffee contains 0g of sugar. However, there can be as much as 10 teaspoons of sugar in a large sweetened iced coffee.
Does Iced Coffee Contain a Lot of Sugar? – The Final Bite
Does Iced Coffee contain a lot of sugar? Well, the answer to this question really depends on where you order your iced coffee from. For example, some coffee chains will sweeten their iced coffee. This is both the case at Starbucks and McDonald’s. However, other chains such as Dunkin’ and Biggby do not. This variation across coffee chains can make a big difference to the sugar content of your iced coffee. So, just always be on the lookout if your favorite coffee chain is sweetening your iced coffee or not.
