Is there any sugar in a Cappuccino? Cappuccino. Those frothy coffee drinks you order when you want a shorter frothier coffee than a latte. But exactly how much sugar is in these frothy coffees that everybody knows and loves? This is the question I am going to be answering in this post.
To answer that question, I have collated the sugar content data of the cappuccinos from four of the big coffee chains – Starbucks, Dunkin’, Peet’s, and Scooter’s. I also used this data to make a few deductions of how to order a lower-sugar cappuccino.
So, let’s dig in, is there any sugar in a cappuccino?
How Much Sugar is in a Cappuccino?
As a general rule, sugar is not added to cappuccinos. However, the milk used in Cappuccinos does contain sugar. Ordering a cappuccino with dairy-free milk often reduces the total sugar content.

STARBUCKS
How Much Sugar is in Starbucks’ Cappuccinos?
On the Starbucks website, Starbucks provides the nutritional data for a drink based on the size ordered. However, that nutritional data does not update based on customizations (for example if you ordered a cappuccino with a different milk). So, the below sugar contents are for the different sizes of cappuccinos at Starbucks ordered with 2% milk.
Starbucks’ Cup Size | Sugar Content of Starbucks’ Cappuccino Made With 2% Milk |
---|---|
Short | 6g |
Tall | 9g |
Grande | 12g |
Venti | 19g |
Even though Starbucks does not provide the nutritional information for ordering a cappuccino with an alternative milk, this Starbucks document here shows that soy milk and coconut milk at Starbucks are lower in sugar than dairy milk. So, one way to reduce the total sugar content of your Starbucks cappuccino is to order yours with soy milk or coconut milk.
How to Order a Lower Sugar Cappuccino at Starbucks?
In conclusion, the best way to reduce the total sugar content of a cappuccino at Starbucks is to order as follows:

Large | 12g |
As you can see the sugar content of a Dunkin’ cappuccino is the same regardless of if it is ordered with whole or skimmed milk.
