1. Nature’s Path Organic Honey’d Corn Flakes – 5g of Total Sugar
The highest sugar corn flake I came across whilst researching for this article comes from Nature’s Path. That corn flake is their Honey’d corn flake – it isn’t a huge surprise that honey’d corn flakes are going to be a touch higher in sugar than regular corn flakes. I mean they are sweetened with both sugar and honey so that makes sense that they are a touch higher in sugar at 5g per dry serving.
2. Nature’s Path Fruit Juice Corn Flakes – 4g of Sugar
Nature’s Path Fruit Juice corn flakes are also a touch higher in sugar than regular sugar-sweetened corn flakes. Nature’s Path Fruit Juice Corn Flakes are sweetened with organic grape and/or pear juice and contain 4g of sugar in a cup serving. Even though the sugar content per serving is the same as regular corn flakes, Nature’s Path serving size is a fair bit smaller (1 cup) than most corn flakes (for example Kellogg’s corn flakes serving size is 1.5 cups) so it is actually still higher in sugar.
3. Kellogg’s Corn Flakes – 4g of Total Sugar
Ok, now we are onto the OG of corn flakes – Kellogg’s corn flakes of course! Now for a popular well know cereal brand Kellogg’s Corn Flakes are actually pretty low in sugar at 4g per dry serving. Plus, a serving is actually pretty large at 1.5 cups. You can see where Kellogg’s Corn Flakes fits in in terms of other lower sugar cereals here in the post I wrote – insert lowest sugar cereals post.
4. Great Value Toasted Corn Flakes – 4g of Total Sugar
Next up is Walmart’s Own Brand version of corn flakes. Just like Kellogg’s, there are 4g of total sugar in a serving of Great Value Toasted Corn Flakes. Just note that their defined serving size is a tad smaller at 1 and 1/3 cups.
5. 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Corn Flakes Cereal – 3g of Total Sugar
There is a tad less sugar in 365 by Whole Foods Market’s Organic Corn Flakes – 3g of sugar in a 1 1/3 cup serving.
6. Barbara’s Corn Flakes – 3g of Total Sugar
Next up is a brand I have talked about before here at Low Sugar Snax. That brand is Barbara’s (I have also talked about Barbara’s in the post I wrote on the sugar content of Cap N Crunch, which you can read here). There are 3g of total sugar in a 1 ¼ cup serving of Barbar’s corn flakes.
7. Sprouts Organic Corn Flakes – 3g of Sugar
There are also 3g of total sugar in a dry serving of Sprouts Organic Corn Flakes. At this point, I think it is pretty safe to assume that there are 3g-4g of total sugar in a dry serving of most corn flake brands. Now let’s move on to any sugar-free corn flake brand alternatives.
8. The Real Cereal Company Organic Corn Flakes – 0g of Total Sugar
So, one of the best sugar-free corn flakes I came across comes from The Real Cereal Company. Their organic corn flakes are simply made from just 2 (yes 2) ingredients. These two ingredients are – organic corn grits and sea salt. Of course, as a result, there is 0g of sugar per serving in this awesome sugar-free corn flakes. You can try them for yourself here on Amazon here.
This isn’t the first time I have talked about The Real Cereal Company here at Low Sugar Snax. I also talk about them in the post I wrote on the sugar content of Rice Krispies (which you can read here) – spoiler alert – they also make a one ingredient Rice Krispies alternative!
The Final Bite
Are cornflakes high in sugar? What have we learned from the above? Well, cornflakes are a lower-sugar cereal option coming in at 3g-4g of sugar per serving.
